ONGOING OPEN ENROLLMENT
Mission: At Sonshine Preschool we are committed to providing high quality, Christian faith-based preschool education for everyone wishing their children to experience the love and compassion of Jesus in a preschool setting.
Philosophy: We believe children are a gift of God, created in His image, and they grow in knowledge and stature. We understand that the preschool years are a critical time for development. Thus, we are committed to providing a rich environment with a wide range of stimulating activities which nurture the child spiritually, cognitively, socially, physically, and emotionally. We believe in the importance of active hands-on and play based learning for children. We believe each child is a unique God created individual, growing and developing according to his/her God-given internal developmental timetable. We are strongly committed to celebrate the individuality of each child, while demonstrating God’s love to each child individually and to all children collectively.
Curriculum: Sonshine Preschool specializes in utilizing a Play-Based curriculum. Child led and teacher encouraged. All methods and curriculum are taught using developmentally appropriate practices (DAP.) The learning environment will allow children to feel a sense of wonder and curiosity. Such methods as self-led exploration, manipulation of objects, physical play and dramatic play are the primary ways of reaching our educational goals.
Spiritual: Our desire is to introduce children to God the Father, Jesus (God’s Son) and the Holy Spirit through Bible stories, prayer, and practical application of the Bible. We talk about God as a loving Father, Jesus as the Son of God and the Holy Spirit as the comforter in their lives. When they have a strong sense of who they are and that they are loved by God, they will be able to soar in all areas. Bible time, verse memorization, praise songs, prayer, and chapel, are also parts of our curriculum to help children learn who God is and how much He loves them.
Cognitive: By encouraging child-led, hands-on learning, we provide opportunities for language, pre-math, pre-reading and basic life skills, that a child uses for the foundation of their educational journeys.
Science: In our newly created Nature and Science Center, we offer opportunities for children to explore their interest and understanding of the world God has created through investigation and experimentation.
Social: By providing an educational setting and experiences where children can learn to share, cooperate, show respect for others and make appropriate decisions, students learn how to act in society. This is reinforced by a loving, caring staff who set an example,
Emotional: By helping children feel loved, secure and valuable, and by guiding them to express feelings in acceptable ways, we provide an environment where every child is welcome, respected, valued and honored.
Physical: Through physical activity, students will be encouraged to develop their fine and gross motor skills, as well as build coordination and balance skills. Sonshine provides a wide array of safe and fun age & developmentally appropriate equipment for children to explore. with activities that are safe and fun.
Through all these experiences, Sonshine preschoolers will learn how to play productively with other children, move toward independence, develop skills in communication, and begin to know the Triune God.
